DECEMBER

lesG.jpgMonday December 19th  - Les Garner’s  widow, Diane, has sent this message to everyone who sent messages following the passing of Les.

“Many thanks to you all, for your kind words and thoughts about Les. He had, and I still have many happy memories C.C.C. the best one being that is where we met when the Social Club opened in 1970. I'm sure the "Senior" members will remember Les for raising the money to buy a Motor Roller which I think cost £250! and I believe it is still working. He still enjoyed watching Cricket, and his 65th birthday in March was during the World Cup and his party was themed "Green & Gold / Cricket". Thanks for the Memories”   Di

Yes Diane, the roller is still throbbing away and it will be a constant reminder of Les’ contribution to the club.

Saturday December 17th  - The Christmas Brass And Carol Concert took place on the 17th with the Besses o’th Barn Boys’ Band along with a pasty and peas supper. Once again it was a resounding success and put everyone in the Christmas mood if they weren’t already. Thanks go to Bill Dorsey and his team for their sterling work

Saturday December 10th -  football fans who turned up tothe club to watch the 3pm kick off on Saturday ended up disappointed. The game wasn’t shown due to circumstances beyond the club’s control after a dispute between the provider and the FA.  The provider has a court date to contest the ‘block’ so we should know more after that.

Thursday December 8th  - There was a good turn for out the 138th Annual General Meeting on a wild and windy December night and there are lots of changes to report following the meeting which was held on Thursday December 8th.

The first XI have a new captain and vice captain in Liam Dorsey and Greg Jennings.

The second XI have a new vice captain in Chris Thorpe.

madura action.jpgThe third XI have a new vice-captain in Andrew Tocher.

Martyn Hough is the club’s new North Manchester League Representative.

Jim Ainscough, Sam Brown, Scott Bradley, Andrew Tocher and Lee Paul were elected on to the management committee.

Sunday December 4th – There were mixed fortunes for new professional Madura Lakmal in his Sri Lankan season’s opener as his Ragama side went down to a thrilling one wicket defeat in the season’s opening game on Sunday. However, it could have been much worse as he featured in a last wicket stand of 71 which very nearly did the trick. The good news ends there  as he failed to capture a wicket and went for over eight-an-over. The only way is up as they say. Interesting footnote is that Chintha played for the opposition and scored less runs (34no to 32) and had the same bowling figures. To add to the Clifton connection, check out Chintha’s mode of dismissal !!
