mop up.jpg2nds Seize the Day

With all their nearest rivals consigned to counting puddles, the seconds made some amends for recent slip-ups by gaining some ground at the top with a win over Royton. In a rain reduced game, the famous Clifton drains came to the rescue and the team took full advantage by rattling up 203-8 with Dave Wild scoring an important speedy 71 not out and other batsmen chipping in with decent knocks as well. The, when the rain returned, the mop-up experts got the game under way and were oh-so unlucky not to chiggs royton.jpggrab the full five points as Royton finished on 154-9.

OWD GITS STEAL THE SHOW

The thirds made it max points against the top two in successive weeks as Phil Royle and Dave Rogers (again) destroyed Old Roytonians. It was a much more even contest than last week’s demolition of table-toppers Rochdalians, but a score of 239-4 was always going to be too many for the visitors after Phil Royle smashed an imperious 127. He was well supported by his partners in several good partnerships before the visitors reply got under way. It was a battle against the clock for a vital part of the innings as the league rules almost meant that the game would end in a tame draw, but once Dave Rogers was introduced, it became academic as he steamrollered his way to 6-29 and the visitors capitulated to 179 all out.
