Dunny Devastates Denton West CC

Skipper Steve McManus returned after his two week hiatus for rain enforced reduced over games vs Denton West.

Losing the toss, Steve led his men out onto the field and handed the new ball to regular openers Lewis Keogh and Tom Worthington. Both bowled excellent spells which put early scoreboard pressure on the incoming batsmen. Denton’s batsmen failed to make large impacts on the score, apart from A. Khan who smashed a 32 ball 50, helped largely by the Clifton fielders who dropped 4 opportunities to remove him (including the first ball of his innings!).

Denton West were bowled all out for 145. A score that most would agree was 40 too many given the promising early start.

In reply, Steve got things of to a flying start with a smashing 50 (literally - smashing the clubhouse window) , but the heroes of the day were Oliver Dunn and Lewis Keogh.

After completing his first two games for many moons, many were pleased to see Oliver Dunn return. After a steady looking start, the hamstring injury that had kept him out at the beginning of the season returned with a vengeance, leaving OD struggling on one leg. In a very sporting manner, Denton West offered to allow a runner to prevent further injury. However, after hitting an over for 16 runs (all without leaving his crease) and scoring two singles to the boundary with the help of his runner, the offer was rescinded and Ollie was eventually bowled for 25.

Lewis Keogh strolled out to the middle and with apparent ease, dispatched the next over for 20 runs to give Clifton a 5 point victory and place them at the top of the league.
