Match Report Mon 25 August: 3rd XI vs Glodwick CC 3rd XI - Sunday Premier Cup (Final) (Away)

THEY'VE ONLY GONE AND DONE IT - 3RDS ARE SUNDAY PREMIER CUP WINNERS

Under clear blue skies and under the watchful gaze of seven former 3rd XI Captains, Skipper no.8 won the toss and elected to bat in front of a sizeable Bank Holiday crowd as the 3rd XI forgot their relegation worries for a moment, in order to put right last season's final disappointment.

Stand in opener Anuj put Sunday's first ball disappointment behind him as, along with his captain, they put on an opening stand of 68 which, on a day of disappointment for the hard working officials at Glodwick CC, would actually have been enough to win the game in the final analysis. As it was, the team amassed 209 without any one player reaching 50, though Anuj will have nightmares about the shot he played on 49.

In stark contrast to Sunday, everyone except the two not out batsmen, reached double figures, combining an array of fine shots, slogs, free hits, edges and even a couple of reverse sweeps played with aplomb by Ollie Dunn.

The unfortunate home side never, at any stage, looked like threatening the target when all four bowlers picked up wickets with Stevie Mac having the luxury of not having to trouble the bowling expertise of Lewis, Dan or Owen, the latter of whom picked up another three catches to bring his weekend total to six.

The final winning margin of 156 runs was a tad harsh on the hosts who had pulled out all the stops to put on a spectacle that catered wonderfully well for the large crowd, but it didn't stop the celebrations of the cup victory, of Anuj's well deserved man of the match award which precipitated the biggest smile in Lancashire and of the life of Bill Dorsey in whose memory the match was dedicated.

On now to the business of prising ourselves out of the bottom two as another season slips by.
