Clifton 1st XI’s trip to Egerton on Saturday was ultimatelydecided by the one opponent nobody could do anything about, the weather.
Egerton’s very own microclimate was in fine form, allowingjust 13 overs of cricket before conditions brought proceedings to a prematureend.
Egerton won the toss and elected to bat, with Cliftonopening the bowling through GarethCross and Oliver Sleight and Sleight struckearly when he bowled Smith for 4, leaving Egerton 4-1.
Egerton responded aggressively, with Read finding theboundary five times on his way to 20 from 19 balls. His counterattack helpedmove the score to 33 before Sleight struck again, bowling Read to claim hissecond wicket of the afternoon.
From there, Kalsi took control of the innings, producing animpressive unbeaten 46 from just 35 deliveries, including nine fours. Harrisprovided support with 13 not out as Egerton reached 88-2 after 13 overs.
Unfortunately, that was as far as the cricket got.
Sleight finished with 2-40 from his six overs, while Crossbowled seven overs for 44 and delivered the only two maidens of the shortenedinnings.
